At first, I wasn't the most thrilled.

At first, I wasn't the most thrilled.

When I first came to Bridle Up Hope, I wasn't the most thrilled. I have a hard time coming out of my comfort zone and doing new things. But I was so grateful when my mom told me that Sarah wanted to work with me, it gave me hope. I was in a rough spot and not feeling wanted in the world. But Sarah wanted me, and gave me motivation, and I felt hope for the first time in a long time.

Learning life lessons in school or therapy is one thing, but learning them at a barn, with amazing girls and having a chance to practice those goals, is just an experience like no other. Plus riding a horse?! I'm so grateful that I got to have this experience! I have always loved horses ever since I was little, so coming here opened up my inner child. I loved being at the barn, working with different horses, and learning new skills. It gave me something to look forward to during the week. My week could be total crap but just knowing I had lessons on Thursday, gave me motivation to keep going.

Later, I started going to service hours and art classes. I loved art classes; getting to paint and taking my mind off things. Service hours were fun too. I loved talking with the leaders and girls, and although I’m a little older for the girls program, the service leads made me feel welcomed and seen.

I can't explain how much I love Bridle Up Hope. It’s helped me so much. I still love going there and seeing Sarah, my instructor, and the Executive Director Nicole! I have made friends and love seeing all of them at the barn. We are always laughing while cleaning up horse poop. It's the best!
